How to Play Florida Lottery

Florida Lottery tickets first went on sale in April of 1988, and since then it has made many lottery players dreams come true. The Florida Lotto draws are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights during a live television broadcast at 11 PM. A single machine filled with rubber balls numbered from 1 to 53 is used to draw the winning numbers. Six numbers are drawn.

Who Is a Winner?

NIn order to win the Florida Lotto jackpot, players must match all six of the winning numbers. There are four ways to win Florida Lotto prize. Apart from the jackpot, players who match three, four, or five of the winning numbers also win prizes. The odds of winning any Florida Lotto prize are 1 in 67.

Players of the Florida Lotto must be at least 18 years of age.

Florida Lotto Jackpot

The Florida Lotto jackpot usually starts at $3 million, but grows every time none of the players match the six numbers to win the jackpot. When there is no jackpot winner the jackpot fund is added to that of the next draw and so on until there is a winner. The basic jackpot prize may be decreased to $2 million in the event of a hurricane or other unfortunate natural disasters that might hit the state.

How to Claim your prize

All Florida Lotto prizes must be claimed within 180 days of the draw. Jackpot winners must decide how they would like to collect their jackpot prize. There are two choices- the first is to receive their win in annual payments over the course of 30 years. The second option is to receive a cash lump sum which is worth about half of the advertized annuitized amount. Jackpot winners who prefer to receive the cash lump sum must claim their prize within 60 days of the draw, or by default receive the annual payments.

2008 saw a new feature being added on to the Florida Lotto. By increasing their wager, players who match all six numbers can win more money. A basic Florida Lotto ticket costs one dollar. By increasing the wager by another dollar, a player who matches all six numbers and wins the jackpot also wins $10 million (annuitized) on top. By buying a $3 ticket, a player who matches the six winning numbers wins the jackpot prize as well as an additional $25 million (annuitized). This increase in wager does not affect the prizes in the lower levels. With more than one winning player in a prize level the prize is divided between the winners.
